"Jambination is a collaboration of Indian Classical and American musicians combining these two nations through improvised music. Internationally acclaimed, BBC award winning percussion virtuoso and music director Abhishek Basu in collaborating with top-ranked musicians from California , USA in fusing together their two musical cultures to create a unique worldly sound and musical experience. Jambination draws upon its members’ diverse backgrounds and wide range of musical styles including Indian Classical, jazz, funk, rock, afro-cuban, latin and reggae to create a very unique and compelling sound. Jambination compositions are driven by the ancient sound of the classical tabla, pakhawaj, the kubing (bamboo mouth harp), tribal drums, African djembe, Egyptian darbukka and percussion, indian classical violin, and classical vocals. These elements are fused with modern instruments like handsonic (japanese instrument), synthesizer, electric guitar & bass, effects, beat boxing and effects technology to create a diverse sound ranging from intense polyrhythmic afro jazz, to ambient melodic meanderings, Indian classical to trance-like pulses found in modern dance music. The project Jambination features Jim Wendt (maestro jazz pianist), Eric Everett (jazz and funk drummer), Matt Beardy (bassist) and Danny Cooke (electric guitarist) joining along with Kolkata’s own international master percussionist Abhishek Basu (tabla and percussion). During Abhishek’s 2008 tour of the USA , he met Jim Wendt and Eric Everett .
