Chris Hazelton Trio -Peregrination (Artists Recording Collective 2012)

This exciting trio honors the tradition and groove of the classic Organ/Guitar/Drums format, while taking it to new places through original compositions and arrangements.
"Peregrination", the second album from the Chris Hazelton Trio, shows this exciting group’s ability to respect the timeless tradition and groove of the organ/guitar/drums format, while also forging ahead with a sound of their own. The release consists of five Hazelton originals, one Embrey original, and four covers. Elements of the blues, modern jazz, gospel, funk, and sensuous ballads wrap up into a singular package that is sure to delight.

The album was recorded direct to 2" analog tape, giving it a warmth and depth not found in many recordings today. This technique also gives the recording a sense of honesty in that there was no digital punch-ins or corrections. The group worked until they had that magic take for each tune.

Organist Chris Hazelton is the former student of Hammond B-3 masters Everette DeVan and Dr. Lonnie Smith. Veteran guitarist Danny Embrey has spent considerable time with Karrin Allyson, Sergio Mendes, Steve Houghton, and Angela Hagenbach. Drummer Kevin Frazee has played with Houston Person, Herbie Mann, Javon Jackson, Everette DeVan, and has studied with former Count Basie drummer Duffy Jackson.

The trio is based out of Kansas City and performs regularly throughout the region.
