Kauai’s Fifth Annual Red Clay Jazz Festival is bringing nationally acclaimed blues artist, Miss E.C. Scott, to headline the four-day event set for June 27 – 30. Miss E.C. Scott is two-time winner of the Real Blues Awards (best live and best west coast blues female) and winner of two West Coast Blues Hall of Fame awards (band leader of the year and female vocalist - blues). Scott has her own syndicated broadcast reaching 8 million households. Another featured headliner is the Vanessa Santi Sextet – Afro Cuban Holiday from Philadelphia, playing vibrant jazz with a Latin flair. Boston’s Berklee College of Music All Stars and Kauai’s own Kirk Smart Quartet are also in the line-up. Located at the Kauai Lagoons Resort, the main concert, on June 30, is open-air with ocean-view lawn and tent seating. Food booths will offer locally grown and prepared items from several of Kauai’s restaurants. On Friday, June 29, a special Meet-the-Artists party will be held at Common Ground in Kilauea. Invited guests will enjoy specialty foods and wine, talk to featured musicians and listen to jam sessions by local artists. On June 27 and 28, local jazz and blues musicians will play at several venues from Poipu to Princeville. A second ticket at half price is being offered until May 1 through http://redclayjazz.org.
The first Red Clay Jazz Festival took place on Kauai in 2008, stemming from efforts by the Kauai Concert Association (KCA) to bring jazz artists for concerts and to provide educational opportunities for local students. The W.S. Pete Robinson Memorial Jazz Fund, given to KCA in 2003 when the organization dreamed of organizing a jazz festival, seeded those efforts. Kauai’s Red Clay Jazz Festival is sponsored, in part by the Hawaii Tourism Authority and Kauai County.
