THEATRE OF THE PERFORMING ARTS OF SHREVEPORT
10th Annual Yazzy Youth Celebrating Jazz Concert
“Soulsville USA: A Snapshot of Memphis Music.”
Join the students and faculty of Theatre of the Performing Arts of Shreveport (TPA) as we celebrate our 10th Anniversary of Yazzy (Youth Celebrating Jazz)! TPA will present its 10th annual Yazzy Youth Celebrating Jazz concert on Friday, April 20, 2012, 7:00 pm, at The Riverview Theatre, 600 Clyde Fant Parkway, in downtown Shreveport. This year’s theme is “Soulsville USA: A Snapshot of Memphis Music.” Our guest artists include Michael Ward, jazz violinist from New Orleans, LA & Tom Browne, jazz trumpeter from Garner, NC. Shreveport’s own jazz musician Dorsey Summerfield Jr. also serves as our Yazzy Project Coordinator.
The Yazzy Youth Celebrating Jazz Concert is designed to showcase local talented youth collaborating with renowned professional artists as we celebrate the month of April as jazz appreciation month. This year's musical tribute focuses on the influence of blues, pop, rhythm & blues and jazz from one of most prolific entertainment cities in the world. By popular demand, because of sold out performances this past summer TPA's Yazzy production will give a musical picture through the sound of some of the greatest entertainers in the recording industry, music that still serve as a vehicle for majority of current trends that music aficionados listen and admire today. Yazzy will also pay accolades to the late Etta James, Don Cornelius, and Whitney Houston. Theatre of the Performing Arts’ Yazzy participants continue to develop and surprise our audiences with their growing interpretation of styles taught in instrumental music, drama, vocal ensemble and dance by the our most capable instructors who are dedicated to assuring quality in all of our presentations.
Adult tickets (18 & up) are $20.00. Children (17 & under) tickets are $10.00. Group rates are available for groups of 20 or more at $15.00 each. Tickets are available for purchase at Theatre of the Performing Arts office, 4005 Lakeshore Drive, Monday thru Friday, from 9:00 am – 5:00 pm, or on the day of the show at The Riverview Theatre. For additional information contact Theatre of the Performing Arts office at 318-525-0740 or 318-621-8914.
