Gianni Bardaro - Soul Blueprint (Emarcy 2012)

The title of the new album released by Italian composer and saxophonist Gianni Bardaro is well in tune with the personal vision he brought to the concept as a whole.
"Soul Blueprint" has the qualities of a dual yin yang jazz experience where the complementarity between themes, rhythms, harmonies
and contrasts releases the power of free expression and collective exploration. Inventivity may be impressing in itself, but what Gianni Bardaro achieves is to impregnate it with a modern "soulful blueprint" yet unemphatic or striking, energetic without overpowering the surroundings as he generously gives enough creative space to all voices in the band, while keeping his interventions meaningful.
The result is a convergent sonic river made of a wide variety of streams meandering effortlessly through energetic and mellow passages, solos, and dialogues that keep the listener hooked throughout.
Andreas Hatholt (double bass), Jacob Hatholt(drums) and Francesco Cali(piano) are sharing the same spiritual state with Gianni Bardaro who is reaching heights and depths jumping courageously from a theme to another, painting moods with an organic clarity and intuition.
What better example than the empathic dialogues with Randy Brecker(trumpet/flugelhorn) who leaves his mark of distinction on three songs of the album.
Among them the intimate "Il Tempio Della Nuvola Bianca" is especially enchanting and touching, stylistically linked to "Into" through moving bass lines and a sensual piano.
In the same thread "Beso De Negra" echoes a jazzified Nino Rota theme with the saxophone and piano expanding on a bitter-sweet chord. On "Illegal" the rhythm section enhanced by Samuel Torres's percussion creates a feeling of spiraling emergency while the Latin
tempo emerges vividly from an intricate shadowy twists.
"A Slow Walk To No-Action" (title suggests the Taoist concept non action)the saxophone is soaring full of vitality and fluidity backed by a fiery rhythm section ending the album on an ascendant note . "Soul Blueprint" is keeping the listener awake and alert along the way. What is around the next corner, what new experience I will hear? And all the musicians gave the best of them to make you enjoy the ride!
