March 27, 2012
Turkish-inflicted group Minor Empire won the Independent Music Award for World Group of the Year. The group is known for their unique blend of traditional Turkish music with psychedelic rock, electronica and jazz.

Toronto based Minor Empire was launched in 2010 and released its debut recording Second Nature in early 2011. The album has been called “deeply exotic, bold, expertly worked and voluptuous”, “both fresh and stylishly hip”. Second Nature has been received with wild enthusiasm across Canada. It was on the national world music chart for three months reaching the number 1 position in April 2011. It has garnered glowing reviews from international publications such as Songlines Magazine (UK) and World Music Central (United States). Last December the band has received World Group Award from Canadian Folk Music Awards.

Minor Empire will be touring Canada in Summer 2012.
