One week ahead of the federal government's budget announcement, Heritage Minister James Moore was touting his commitment to the arts in B.C. by announcing $10.5 million in funding for 182 B.C.-based organizations, festivals and arts projects.
"We always talk about how it's important to invest in the arts because of what it means for our local communities and it's true," Moore said during a media event held at the VSO School of Music's Pyatt Hall in downtown Vancouver Tuesday morning. "We want to have vibrant communities and great shared experiences."
Recipients of the funding include Vancouver's Coastal Jazz and Blues Society, which organizes the TD Vancouver International Jazz Festival and Winterruption, and Bard on the Beach, as well as Victoria's Conservatory of Music and the city of Kamloops' bicentennial celebrations in 2012.
