ESTONIA: Musician of the year: jazz composer and saxophonist Siim Aimla

The music editors at Estonian Public Broadcasting (ERR) picked composer and saxophonist Siim Aimla as Musician of the Year.
The award will be presented to Aimla at a ceremony in Tallinn on January 8 – an event broadcasted live on ERR radio and website.
The Tallinn-born, 38-year-old Aimla, who is also a music professor and conductor of several big bands, was cited as a huge contributor to development of jazz music in Estonia. Besides collaborating with a host of renowned local musicians, Aimla has worked side by side with international artists such as Randy Brecker and Joan Foulkner.
During last year's Youth Song and Dance Celebration, Aimla took the baton to conduct the festival's "Rock Choir."
The ERR Music Editors' Choice will be awarded for the 30th time, with past winners including musicians Ivo Linna (2009), Tõnis Mägi (1997) and composer Erkki-Sven Tüür (1996).
