"Hagans has proven to be a master compositional architect in more formal settings, but his ability to let loose with this small group is the key to its success. The Moon Is Waiting is a marvel of elastic expressions from one of the most shrewd and intelligent minds in jazz today."

"Trumpeter Tim Hagans has been around for a while, but the music on his new CD, "The Moon Is Waiting" (Palmetto), really smacked me upside the head. If his approach to the instrument is reminiscent of one Miles Dewey Davis III, well, what jazz trumpeter born in the second half of the 20th century isn't under that spell, at least to some extent? Here Hagans' fierce solo runs are abetted by a quartet that splits the difference between Davis' '60s quintet and his early-'70s electric period. What this group does is slightly less intense than those Davis bands, but the spirit and ingenuity pouring out of Hagans and guitarist Vic Juris is so winning that you can't help but root for this brand of jazz-rock fusion."
