Classic gets a hit of jazz

CORVALLIS — For “Jazz in the Valley,” its debut foray into the world of jazz, Corvallis-OSU Piano International — the organization responsible for the classical-music Steinway Series — has lured to Corvallis a pianist who straddles both jazz and classical music.
Pianist and composer Billy Childs — who will perform in concert on Friday, Aug. 19 with saxophonist Steve Wilson — has consistently explored the areas where jazz and classical music can find common ground.
