Jill Martini Soiree-Get Your Django On(2014)

The Jill Martini Soiree is an acoustic Gypsy Jazz ensemble that embraces dark Gypsy melodies, vintage Parisian swing, American jazz, and fiery Latin rhythms. The music is hot, mysterious, emotional and romantic. Once you hear it you can’t forget it. It is sophisticated, yet it touches every sensation. It is Gypsy Jazz, and the popularity of this joyous yet melancholy guitar music is growing around the world.

“Get Your Django On” features a classic gypsy jazz ensemble: guitars, violin, mandolin, and upright bass, paired with the soaring and sultry vocals of Jill Martini. Jill is one of the few female vocalists/instrumentalists in the gypsy jazz world, and is a favorite here and abroad.

The opening song, “Get Your Django On,” is a tribute to the Soiree’s primary musical inspiration, Django Reinhardt, and the Paris cafĂ© nightlife. As a hallmark of this style, the song incorporates a classical theme (Grieg’s “Hall of the Mountain King”) and turns it into a swing romp. “Joliette,” an original instrumental waltz, continues the Moulin Rouge/Parisian bal musette theme. “Avalon” is a swing valentine to Catalina Island, right off our coast, featuring a “hot club” violin solo. “Palm of My Hand” is a gypsy bossa instrumental, and is in the vein of modern gypsy jazz played around the world today. The sweet vocal “Why Not Take A Chance On Me” showcases the delicate interplay of Jill’s vocals and the mandolin, while the Italian “Bella Ciao” is a favorite at the Soiree’s shows, where the crowd frequently joins in singing.
