Against the backdrop of the Sochi 2014 Cultural Olympiad, the fourth international festival "Aquajazz - Sochi Jazz Festival" is coming to Sochi. From 1 till 4 August, residents and visitors to the city can enjoy music from the best jazz musicians from Russia and the USA. "Aquajazz" is a real celebration of jazz music, brought to the Olympic capital by the famous jazz musician and Sochi 2014 ambassador, Igor Butman.
Among the festival's performers are the quintet of trombonist Delfeayo Marsalis and the internationally acclaimed vocal group and winner of 10 Grammy awards, Take 6. The American jazz vocalist and singer, Zenia McPherson and Broadway performer, Katie Jenkins will take part. Together with the international stars, the best Russian jazz groups will perform in Sochi.
One of the Russian jazz stars at the Festival will be Oleg Akkuratov – a partially sighted musician with an exceptional sense of rhythm and a unique gift for jazz improvisation. As a participant in the UNESCO World Children's Choir, Oleg Akkuratov performed in St Petersburg in front of Pope John Paul II, in Great Britain, and in a concert with the opera singer Montserrat CaballĂ©.
According to tradition, the festival has been opened by a jazz parade directed by Igor Butman in the "Riviera" park. Between August 2 - 4, chamber concerts will take place at the Winter Theater in Sochi, and on August 3, a big gala concert - "Igor Butman and Future Stars" - will be held. On the closing night, the Moscow Jazz Orchestra will perform a lively jam session under the direction of Igor Butman.
