SPAIN: THE ARUÁN ORTIZ & MICHAEL JANISCH QUINTET featuring GREG OSBY. Banned in London. Saturday 13 of July | Jamboree

Aruán Ortiz, piano. Greg Osby, alto sax. Raynald Colom, trumpet. Michael Janisch, double bass. Rudy Royston, drums.
Description

If you want to know what 21st-century jazz sounds like, this quintet of young all-stars is one of the most highly recommended options. All of them have learned their trade in groups led by greats of the genre, like Joe Lovano, Lee Konitz, Wallace Roney and Terry Line Carrington. A few years before that they were top of the class at Berklee College of Music in Boston. Leadership of the group is shared by the Cuban Aruán Ortíz and the double bass player Michael Janisch, two born improvisers and lovers of the most extreme forms of risk and adventure. Alongside them are the Catalan trumpeter Raynald Colom and the drummer Rudy Royston (Bill Frisell, Ravi Coltrane). And the icing on the cake is provided by the free funk, magnetic jazz saxophone of Greg Osby.
