"An instant hit: funny, energetic and recognizably European, with those echoes of barrel organs and Kurt Weill's theater music very entertaining." - Kevin Whitehead, National Public Radio
"An extraordinary, devoted, obsessively serious and immensely influential modern European artistÅ Breuker's prolific output, boundless energy and optimism leaves and incandescent inspiration for future generations of contrarians like him" - John Fordham, The Guardian
"Despite his fondness for madcap satire, Mr. Breuker was anything but cavalier about his music. His Kollektief could suggest a Broadway pit orchestra in its rigorous precision, and its roster included some superb players Breuker wrote parts with specific members of the group in mind, clearing pockets of space for improvisation." - Nate Chinen, New York Times

In a final panorama of the work of its late leader, the internationally acclaimed Willem Breuker Kollektief celebrates the strength and timelessness of Breuker's music with a 7-city tour titled "Willem Breuker: 45 Years Composing His World."
Breuker (1944-2010) played a unique role in the Dutch and international music worlds for 45 years. He was one of the most striking and versatile makers of "people's music" as he preferred to call it. As a jazz and improvised music innovator and as the creator of a new form of Dutch musical theatre, he broke through established traditions to create new forms and new possibilities for himself and for the musicians who performed with him as well as musicians from the next generations. He was a powerful and irreverent performer and improviser, and as a composer of orchestral, chamber and solo works and of music for movies and the theatre.
For 35 years he was part of the Willem Breuker Kollektief, ten musicians/improvisers who became his main musical outlet and with whom he took his music to all continents. With most of its members still present, the Kollektief - saxophonists Frans Vermeerssen, Hermine Deurloo, and Marten van Noorden, trumpet players Andy Altenfelder and George Pancraz, trombonists Andy Bruce and Bernard Hunnekink, pianist Henk de Jonge, bassist Arjen Gorter, and drummer Rob Verdurmen -
now pays a final homage to its instigator, applying its musical experience to a broad overview of works by Willem Breuker the composer, written in various eras and including material never performed before.
