DIKEMAN - KUGEL - VAN DER WEIDE - across the sky (Not Two Records 2012)

John Dikeman - tenor and baritone saxophones
Raoul van der Weide - contrabass, crackle box, sound objects

Klaus Kugel - drums, percussion

Shades of Albert Ayler fragmented and fermented in a universe converging in refractory impro areas, temperaments and sounds. Amsterdam based American saxophonist John Dikeman's playing runs the gamut of improvised music and technique, ranging from reductionist extended technique based improvisation to full throttle free jazz.
Raoul van der Weide's approach towards contrabass playing since 1978 may be best described as being open, informal, structured and experimental - continuously developing a whole scala of personal and unorthodox improvising techniques in order to achieve an idiosyncratic form of expression that urges creative communication.
German drummer Klaus Kugel's improvising style is highly intuitive, inventive and adventurous. He worded together with a variety of outstanding musicians including Petras Vysniauskas, Charles Gayle, Matthew Shipp, Kenny Wheeler, Vyacheslav Ganelin, John Lindberg, Bobo Stenson, Perry Robinson, Bobby Few, Karl Berger, Tomasz Stanko, Waclaw Zimpel, Roy Campbell
