On Sunday, September 11, twelve of the world's most talented young jazz pianists will compete in the semi-finals of the 2011 Thelonious Monk International Jazz Competition, the most prestigious jazz competition in the world.
The semi-finals will be held at the National Museum of Natural History Baird Auditorium. Tickets are free and available on a first-come, first-served basis. If you are unable to attend in person, please watch the semi-finals via a LIVE webcast presented by Smithsonian Associates at www.monkinstitute.org/semifinalslive.
The 2011 competition semi-finalists are Kris Bowers (Los Angeles, California), Emmet Cohen (Miami, Florida), Steven Feifke (Lexington, Massachusetts), Beka Gochiashvili (Tbilisi, Republic of Georgia), Justin Kauflin (Virginia Beach, Virginia), Pascal Le Boeuf (Santa Cruz, California), Antonio Madruga (Pembroke Pines, Florida), Hod Moshonov (Pardes Hanna, Israel), Can Olgun (born in Marburg, Germany and raised in Berlin, Germany), Harold O'Neal (born in Arusha, Tanzania and raised in Kansas City, Missouri), Joshua White (born in Los Angeles and raised in El Cajon, California) and Glenn Zaleski (Boylston, Massachusetts).
